God Save the Cream! (For Robin)
Recipe Simple, Perfect, Organic Hand Cream
Many of you know and love this concoction. I'm sorry to report that we couldn't keep producing it because of it's lack luster sales! We are happy to share the recipe though. We think this is a great gift for the holidays. Recipe makes enough for 8 - one ounce jars.
Use equal parts Raw Shea and your favorite nut oil - Soybean works VERY well, but almond, sunflower, or safflower are perfect partners also.
Recipe MAKES 1 Cup or 8 Ounces
1/2 C Raw Shea butter (4 oz)
1/2 C Soybean Oil (4 oz)
Optional Scent: 12 drops Orange, Tangerine, Spearmint, Lavender essential oils
Slowly melt the shea over either a double boiler, radiator, water bath, or in the microwave you can melt in the same way you do chocolate. Small 15 second cycles, stirring in between until it begins to soften.
Then pour in your oil, and stir. Mix in essential oils like Lavender, Citrus or Mint. Stir again
Pour into the containers you want to use. Pop into the freezer until hard. This allows the oils to bind together making your final result smooth. If you skip this step the hand cream will be lumpy and bumpy and make look like cauliflower on the top. Nothing wrong with it, you can remelt, but it looks and feels much more appealing if you follow this last step.
