| Body Scrub
There are lots of ways to make a body scrub. Brown sugar is the most gentle. White sugar provides lots of exfoliation and doesn't burn your skin. Salt is the most aggressive and has natural healing properties, but it can burn if you shave and tends to absorb fragrance.
White Sugar Citrus Scrub
For the purposes of the recipe, we will use white refined sugar. To make an 8 oz tub you will need:
4 oz - 1/2 C Body & skin friendly oil. This can be soybean, almond, jojoba or grapeseed oils.
3/4 C White Sugar
6-10 drops of essential oil (to scent) tangerine, grapefruit or other citrus scent.
1/2 - 1 teaspoon of cranberry seeds, ground flax or orange zest
1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin (to preserve the scent)
Blend the essential oils (and if you would like to add food coloring) to the dry sugar. Mix well, then slowly pour oi into mix stirring all the time. When your blend begins to bind you can stop adding oil. Add glycerin and extra exfoliant (cranberry seed, flax or zest). Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes to test the consistency. It is great to test this on the back of your hand to make sure after you rinse you will still have the desired level of scent. Package up and drizzle a small amount of oil over the top of your scrub to help keep the sugar from getting crunchy.
